Small acts of sharing can have a big impact!
When children are young, generosity isn’t automatic—it’s something they learn through guidance, encouragement, and practice. Every time a child offers a toy, helps a classmate, or says something kind, they’re building habits that will shape their character for years to come.
At Cresthill Academy, we believe generosity is more than a nice gesture—it’s a foundation for empathy, friendship, and social-emotional growth.
In this week’s video, Ms. Benalis shares how modeling generosity and encouraging small acts of kindness can help children grow into thoughtful, empathetic individuals./

❌ What Can Make Sharing Harder Than It Has to Be
Expecting too much too soon
Young children are still learning about ownership and boundaries. Setting unrealistic expectations can backfire—patience is key.
Using pressure or guilt
“Be nice and share, or you’re not being good” can create stress or resentment. Sharing should come from joy, not obligation.
Taking over for your child
Jumping in to force a turn or snatch a toy away teaches compliance, not generosity. Children learn best when they’re given space to practice sharing on their own.
✅ What To Do: Model, Encourage, and Celebrate Generosity
👩👧 Model Sharing and Kindness
Show children what it looks like to give: share your snack, lend a hand, or speak kindly.
Try saying:
• “I’m happy to share this with you.”
• “Let’s take turns so we both get a chance.”
• “It feels good to help others.”
Why it works: Children imitate adult behavior. When they see generosity in action, they’re more likely to repeat it themselves.
🌱 Encourage Small Acts of Giving
Start with simple opportunities: passing out crayons, helping a sibling, or offering a hug to a friend.
Why it works: Repeated practice helps generosity feel natural, not forced. Small acts build confidence and empathy over time.
🎉 Celebrate the Moments That Matter
When your child shares or shows kindness, acknowledge it with genuine praise.
Try saying:
• “I noticed you gave your toy to your friend—that was very kind.”
• “Thank you for helping. You made someone’s day better.”
Why it works: Positive reinforcement makes generosity rewarding and encourages children to do it again.
