Reduce, Reuse, Recycle...the Cresthill Competition!

Ahoy, Readers!

Earth Day was Sunday, April 22nd this year, but Cresthill Academy has been upping our green initiative this whole month! In fact, we turned it into a fun little competition between our schools...fair warning, this is a long post, but it's chock full of awesome pictures!

During the month of April, our schools were issued a challenge. No art materials would be bought during this one month; instead, teachers and administrators would get creative with materials we already have and also use recycled goods to make crafts and projects! The directors would then choose which projects to highlight on social media, and the top two with the highest likes & shares would move onto the final round.

At first the initiative seemed daunting...but with the outpouring of support from our families as well, this month turned into one of the most creative, fun, and environmentally friendly ones we've ever had!

Before we get to our two finalists, let's take a look at the amazing projects that all of our schools created:

East Hanover

Left: Cresthill pride through and through! A boat made of recycled plastic bottles! Right: Our Dolphins class made a futuristic robot out of different cardboard and paper products!

Left: By crushing plastic bottles, the children made a new shape out of them. After some painting and hat making, a patriotic picture is the end result! Right: First we're setting sail, and now we're flying high with Cresthill!

I think all of our schools did an absolutely amazing job with their projects! Isn't it so cool just how creative we can get with different items? But now, our two finalists!

"Did you know you can RECYCLE FOOD too? We recycled our leftover snack and made a compost bin! Composting is the process of recycling organic material to make rich, nutritious soil. Stay tuned for our blooming garden in the months to come!"

Hoboken Downtown!

A little snippet from their original post...

"Our dramatic play areas came to life ...with reusable items you can find at home! We had a donation of leftover wood, which now house our crayons and display a welcome sign at our school!"

So what happens next? If you have an Instagram account, go give your 'like' to whichever post is your favorite! If you do not have one, no fear!

Here is a link to a can show your support there! Votes are not limited to the families of Hoboken Uptown and Downtown as we invite all of our Cresthill families to take part in all of our Earth Day competition voting!

Any additional likes on Instagram will be tallied with the votes through the poll, and you can vote for your favorite through Tuesday, May 8th. We will announce the winner through our social media page on Wednesday, May 9th!

Happy voting, and thank you to all of our kids, teachers, administrators, and parents for participating in a wonderful 2018 Cresthill Earth Month!

Until next time, safe sailing!
