In the past few months, we have seen both Jersey City and Hoboken, along with other major cities, ban the use of single-use plastic bags to move towards a more sustainable and less wasteful world. As a proactive member of our society and a champion for young children, Cresthill Academy was inspired to conduct an introspective analysis of our single use plastic and disposable plastic utensils use during our monthly management meeting.
During the May 2019 management team meeting, every Cresthill Academy director and manager voted to cease the use of single-use plastic bags to send home soiled laundry and items from school. As a first step towards reducing Cresthill Academy’s plastic use, we will start phasing out single-use plastic bags to send home soiled items. Our ultimate goal is to eventually eliminate the use of single-use plastic utensils in our schools and minimize plastic toys and furniture in the classrooms.

As with any changes, there will certainly be challenges, however we believe that these little steps and inconveniences will add to a brighter future for our children! Starting in September 2019, Cresthill Academy will be providing every Cresthill family with a reusable non-permeable tote bag to shuttle soiled laundry and clothes from school to home. In the coming weeks, we will be sending out a quick design surveys to poll our Cresthill families and crew to vote for their favorite reusable bag design! Stay tuned!!!
